We are a vibrant community-led organisation in South East Edinburgh whose aim is to enable people to learn, work and grow together to create a flourishing community and place, The Community Engagement Officer will engage a wide diversity of people from our surrounding areas of benefit in a range of activities, services and events, supporting their participation in local community research and in democratic decision making processes within Bridgend Farmhouse and the wider community. The post-holder will have access to a budget for sessional tutors, volunteer training, and materials to support the activities and will be involved in events at Bridgend Farmhouse and in supporting and signposting volunteers.

To apply you will need a professional qualification and strong track record in community development or community education, as well as good experience of managing volunteers and sessional workers. You will be skilled in engaging, motivation and supporting community participants from diverse backgrounds and in creating strong working partnerships with a wide range of organisations and groups. You’ll be an excellent team player, and well able to take the initiative so as to plan, prioritise, implement and administer your own work. Experience of community research, monitoring and evaluation would be an advantage.

This new post is funded until 31st March 2022 through the Scottish Government’s Investing in Communities Programme, which is designed to support community and third sector organisations in disadvantaged communities to develop and deliver sustainable local solutions that reduce poverty, inequality and disadvantage and enable inclusive growth.

Tiphereth Day Service has an exciting and rare opportunity for a Team Leader who will lead, organise and manage the Garden group within the day service. The post holder will provide direct support to adults with learning disabilities and autism in the garden group, and will also lead and manage the staff team. The work of the Garden Group is to maintain and cultivate an aesthetically pleasing garden through weeding, mowing, sowing; to grow vegetables, flowers and plants for use in Tiphereth and for the summer fair; and to be responsible for the local Green waste collection which is used to produce our compost. We are looking for someone with relevant care and support experience, ideally with prior leadership experience, and knowledge and enthusiasm for horticultural work.

An opportunity has now emerged to join the Board of Trustees as Chairperson. This is a voluntary position.

Role/Duties
The Board of Trustees meet monthly and the Chair's role would involve; providing strategic leadership; chairing meetings; working with other Trustees, the Development Manager and volunteers, and liaising with a number of important external stakeholders, including funders. It is an exciting stage of our development as we move from being a small community group to a social enterprise with land, a farmhouse, kitchen garden, a bike hub, wood and arts workshop, staff, lots of volunteers, support, funding and infrastructure.

Skills required
We seek someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ideally with prior experience in a governance role and a passion for the environment and sustainability. A good grasp of at least one of the following would be an advantage: business development and growth, social enterprise, budgeting and financial strategy, employment law and/or HR, fundraising, community development, environmental sustainability, people management.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is looking for a Community Engagement Manager to join our Public Engagement team. The role is a job share 12 month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave (22.2 hours per week).

Reporting to the Head of Public Engagement, your role will cover working across the Botanic Cottage and Demonstration Garden. You will manage of 2 staff and approximately 30 volunteers. You will be involved in planning and delivering RBGE’s community programme including the Edible Gardening Project. You will also be involved in developing and supporting the strategy and programme for community use of the Botanic Cottage.

Applicants should be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, be highly organised, have strong project planning and management experience, confident communicators and have prior budget management experience. You should also have previous experience of managing staff and volunteers. You should have an interest in horticulture and some practical knowledge. It is not essential to have any formal horticultural training.

Camphill School Aberdeen work to create communities in which vulnerable children and adults, many with learning disabilities, can live, learn and work with others in healthy social relationships based on mutual care and respect. As a Gardener, you will be required to take over the day to day running of our walled gardens on our Murtle Estate. This role involves working with young people with additional support needs, and the successful candidate will work with the wider CSA community to provide meaningful opportunities and workplace activities. The Gardener will care for all aspects of the walled garden as well as working directly with young people, based on Murtle Estate, Bieldside, Aberdeen. Experience in vegetable growing, soft fruit, top fruit and salad crops would be required. The ability to work directly with young people with additional support needs is a requirement, however full training and support will be available to the right person. Further opportunities are available to be involved in a variety of support roles, group activities. This is a young organic garden which would lend itself to someone who has a passion to develop and strengthen the garden. This position will be subject to a PVG Membership check

You will provide support and motivation to people with learning disabilities to participate in meaningful work on the land, in community gardening and estates maintenance. You will bring experience of support work and knowledge of land based work such as gardening or conservation. You need to work well as part of a team, have good communication skills and be motivated by Camphill’s values and ethos.
