Children’s Garden, Glasgow seeks new committee members
The Children’s Garden in Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens is looking for new members to join its management committee.
The community garden was established in 2004 to encourage children to get active outdoors and to create an environment to learn about healthy eating and growing fruit and vegetables. The garden is run by volunteers who organise regular family-based events and assist with the garden’s maintenance and upkeep.
Committee members will play an important role in determining the garden’s future priorities, and will help to further develop the garden’s reputation in the local community by engaging with residents, families, businesses and other partners.
The Children’s Garden is looking for enthusiastic members for its committee who can make a positive and lasting difference to the garden. Interested applicants are not required to have specialist horticultural or gardening skills, but an interest in community engagement, education and gardening would be beneficial.
The committee needs a balance of skills, knowledge and experience, including people with a background in education, business development, horticulture, administration and law. The committee meets once a month in the city’s west end.
John Hancox, Chair of the Children’s Garden said:
“The Children’s Garden has become an integral part of the west end community since we set it up 11 years ago. Thousands of local children and their families have benefited from the learning opportunities the garden has to offer and we are eager to continue to build on that. We’re looking for some fresh new talent to join our committee – if you have an interest in community growing, education or the environment, or would just like to do your bit for the local area, please get in touch.”
For more information please contact the Children’s Garden chairman on email@example.com or 07786 063 918.
St Ninian’s Stay and Play Family Support Group, Dundee
Can You help us with our Garden Please?
We are a voluntary family support group, working alongside 24 families with children in the 0-4 year age range, which has a small easily accessible garden, that we are unable to upkeep. Over the last year we have grown vegetables but they tend to be ready during school holidays, and the group doesn’t operate during school holidays.
The garden is approximately 7metres x 3 metres and if possible we would like to grow flowers. The children could then see flowers growing and the parents could take some to enjoy at home.
Access to the garden is open so a volunteer would not need keys etc to reach it. The gardener could choose which flowers they would like to grow and design their own lay out for the garden. The Group would buy the materials needed for the garden, and provide tools.
We would be delighted if we could share this garden with someone who would like to garden and look forward to hearing from you. If this would suit you please either email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07712331124
Many thanks for taking the time to read this I hope to hear from you soon

Pennycook Court, Dundee DD1 4JL
The residents of Pennycook Court would like to do more with their raised beds. DO you have some gardening knowledge ? Able to lend a hand for a morning or afternoon a week? Can you help get the residents out and help to salvage geraniums (maybe already too late...), plant spring bulbs and plan the plots for next season. There are 3 raised beds about 1.5 metres square and a few containers; enclosed and pretty shaded but looks like their bedding from this year did really well. One bed has been set up ready to plant with alpines (Dobbies donations): various gravels and rocks over membrane, it's perfect to plant into and will look great with just a few plants in it.
