Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering

Projects across the Trellis network are often looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles.

If you have some time and skills to share with others please have a look at the volunteering opportunities listed below or contact gardening projects directly via the Directory of Projects

If you can't see any projects in your local area, then please email Jenny at the Trellis office who can suggest further gardening projects that encourage volunteering.

Here in the Trellis office we also need volunteers from time to time to help with administrative, website or fundraising work. Email or call to find out about current opportunities.

Volunteers get a lot out of their work:
"It's really helping my concentration."           "It's nice to feel useful."

Express Group (Fife) Ltd

Positon: Volunteer

Express Express Group (Fife) Ltd is a mental health charity operating in Fife for almost 50 years. We provide group activities and one to one work for people over 18 experiencing poor mental health. Groups meet once a week or a few times per week in: Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Lochgelly, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Methil, Cupar and St Andrews. At our groups participants receive a light breakfast of toast and tea/coffee (bottomless) and a simple lunch at the end. Groups run from 9.30am until 1.00pm. Activities are decided by the participants and include playing board games, doing arts and crafts, doing crosswords and other puzzles, playing bingo, or just sitting and chatting with old and new friends.

There is also a garden group in St Andrews operating March-October. All other groups opened again in October 2021, Express Group (Fife) Ltd have just started a new group in Methil and now are looking to start garden group again. The group has an allotment plot in Kinburn Park (next to the tennis club). We are now looking for a Volunteer who could offer their skills and knowledge for 4 hours per week on Thursdays 9:30 - 1:00pm. There is always a Group Coordinator facilitating the group and very often also a Case Worker who can work 1 to 1 with service users when needed. Lunch is provided and “sponsored” by local Morrison.

Role: Gardener Buddy

Organisation: Volunteers for Carers project (City of Edinburgh Council, Health and Social Care Department)

Location: Edinburgh

For more information or to apply please contact: ilona.kos@edinburgh.gov.uk

We are looking for gardeners buddies to help people who are no longer able to look after their own gardens (due to their health or caring role). We will ask you to carry out small gardening tasks as as weeding, pruning, planting or lawn mowing. No experience is needed but basic knowledge of gardening is required so you can carry out these tasks independently and safely. While people are not able to carry out all these tasks themselves, they still enjoy being out in the garden and doing small jobs around it. They also enjoy spending time with our gardeners volunteers and chatting to them over a cuppa once gardening is done.

We are a city wide project so we have gardening opportunities across the city. Please get in touch for more information.
