Winter Unit available from 1st December 2024 - 28th February 2025
Part of the Seasonal Gardening Activities Training Programme. Certificate issued on completion of each unit 10 hrs CPD. No prior gardening knowledge required.

These units will empower you with the confidence, skills and knowledge required to adapt gardening activities to your clients needs. This training unit will enable you to be confident in handling plant materials and organise gardening activities suitable for the Winter season. Gardening activities support wellbeing through opportunities for social interaction, physical activity, sensory stimulation, learning new and reviving old skills, as well as giving and nurturing.

The Winter Unit comprises these topic areas :

Winter - How Winter affects plant growth, Seasonal Signifiers
What can be done in the garden at this time of year.
Gardening Activities - Jingle Bulbs & Indoor Flowering Bulbs, Festive Decorations, Windowsill Growing, Birds in the Garden
Specialist Techniques - adapting gardening activities; engaging your clients; the importance of planning & reflecting on your gardening activities.

Gardening activities are fun, immersive and sensory, bringing many benefits to wellbeing. We aim to provide you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to try out the gardening activities in this taster unit, with your clients.

 

The HAVE A GO+  Seasonal Gardening Activities Training Programme is designed to boost your professional development with lots of practical gardening activities to engage clients and residents, both indoors and out, throughout the year. Support your clients:

  • Stimulate reminiscence, conversation and engage the senses
  • Enable meaningful, light-hearted interactions with staff, family & visiting community groups
  • Increase self-esteem through sharing skills and expertise
